
Charlotte Touati, historian, and Mourad Amellal, member of the Kabyle League for Human Rights, were in Geneva for the 60th session of the Human Rights Council on September 29, 2025.
On the sidelines of an event organized by Jubilee Campaign and supported by the ECLJ on arbitrary detentions on religious grounds, they denounced the severe repression targeting Kabyle Christians in Algeria.
The Algerian government does not respect the religious freedom of Christian minorities nor the rights of the Kabyle minority. In response, the ECLJ is continuing its advocacy at the United Nations through the Universal Periodic Review mechanism (read our report), by alerting special rapporteurs and by supporting events during Human Rights Council sessions to give experts a voice:
