Right to die: the law explained by Grégor Puppinck

This Friday, May 2, the review of the bill to legalize assisted suicide will conclude in committee and reveal one thing: this is indeed a law made by and for the euthanasia lobby, the Association for the Right to Die with Dignity (ADMD). Indeed:

  • The text creating a “right to die” is broad and would apply not only to “the end of life,” but to any sick person;
  • Common sense amendments to protect vulnerable people, ensure informed consent, and promote palliative care are systematically rejected;
  • The offense of obstructing assisted suicide is already provided for in the law, and the ADMD will be able to take legal action against those who wish to “obstruct” the suicide of others, including pharmacists who refuse to prepare the poison.

That is why the ECLJ, as a UN-accredited NGO, is working with this organization to remind France that euthanasia is fundamentally contrary to human rights.

We submitted the petition signed by more than 12,000 people and obtained a meeting with the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which will take place on May 6.

This is a great step forward, and we will continue our efforts to ensure that international law prevails over this plan to make suicide an act of individual freedom.

Grégor Puppinck, director of the ECLJ, explains exactly what the bill contains in this new interview of the month, which you can discover now.

The UN must recall that euthanasia violates fundamental rights
