Non-Confessional Religious Education Classes to Promote Social Cohesion
Share

A Resolution from the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe asks religious education to "be inspired by pluralism and be objective and non-confessional." Also it urges religious communities to adapt their teachings to highlight the value of all religions and promote "peaceful living together and social cohesion." This constitutes an infringement on religious freedom, as secular institutions are asking religious groups to alter their teachings.

This resolution illustrates what is happening in Europe through numerous laws and legal decisions, which we discuss in this new interview from May 2026 with Christophe Foltzenlogel, a legal expert at the ECLJ.
