Nicolas Bauer, an associate researcher for the ECLJ, was invited on Sud Radio to talk about the European Court of Human Rights' decision of December 20, 2022, in the case of Zemmour v. France [n°63539/19].

For more on this case, also read in Valeurs Actuelles: “The ECHR confirms Eric Zemmour's conviction for ‘provocation to discrimination.’”

The ex-journalist was challenging his 2019 conviction for “provoking discrimination, hatred, or violence against Muslims.” Nicolas Bauer, a doctoral student in international human rights law, sheds light on the ruling for Valeurs Actuelles.

Eric Zemmour's appeal to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) was somewhat surprising, given the ex-journalist's distrust of the institution. Today's ruling is likely only to confirm this. With regard to Zemmour v. France, the ECHR upheld the French judgment and condemned the remarks Eric Zemmour made on France 5 in 2016.

Radio show and op-ed available in French only.
