(Vienna, Austria) - The European Centre for Law and Justice (ECLJ) provided critical insight and analysis to the first international conference on intolerance and discrimination against Christians in Europe. The conference, organized by the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) and held in Vienna, Austria, provided diplomats and human rights experts with the opportunity to discuss this critical issue in an international setting.

"It is a real achievement that, through this conference, the growing intolerance and discrimination against Christians in Europe has been officially recognized," said Grégor Puppinck, ECLJ representative. "We were able to urge and encourage the OSCE to continue to raise awareness on the growing problem of Christian discrimination around the globe."

During the conference which was held last week, Puppinck highlighted several aspects of discrimination against Christians - both in Eastern and Western Europe. Among the main issues raised, were the general misrepresentation of the Christian identity and values in the media, the attacks against persons, places of worship and cemeteries, as well as the various forms of restrictions to the right to freedom of religion.

The conference was organized by the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights and attracted experts from Europe and the United States.

The OSCE is the world's largest regional security organization with 56 participating states from Vancouver to Vladivostok and is the first international organization to consider the growing trend of intolerance and discrimination targeting Christians.

The European Centre for Law and Justice (ECLJ) is an international law firm focusing on the protection of human rights and religious freedom in Europe and worldwide. The ECLJ is affiliated with the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ) which focuses on protecting religious freedom in the United States. Attorneys for the ECLJ have served as counsel in numerous cases before the European Court of Human Rights. Additionally, the ECLJ has special Consultative Status with ECOSOC of the United Nations, and is accredited to the European Parliament.
